The early years - Brian Axdahl with a prize winning pumpkin
Our History
"About 30 years ago, when I was just a kid, my sister and I would go down to the end of the road to sell sweet corn my dad had grown and we'd just picked," reminisces Brian Axdahl.
That's when it all started. Axdahl's Garden Farm & Greenhouse was born. From freshly picked veggies sold at the end of the road to freshly picked veggies sold at their roadside stand in Stillwater, MN, Axdahl's Garden Farm & Greenhouse has grown considerably while maintaining quality and reliability.
The Axdahl's began their corn sales as a hobby. Larry Axdahl, Brian Axdahl's father and founder of Axdahl's Garden Farm & Greenhouse, started with a hobby farm in Stillwater. Brian and his sisters looked at the produce Larry grew as a way to make a little extra money and learn about business.
Time went by. Brian went on to become a design engineer for a major company that developed harvesting equipment. Larry and his wife, RoAnne, continued to grow the farm business in Stillwater by starting a roadside stand and selling the produce at area farmer's markets.
Brian later married his wife, Leslie, and in 1994 formed a partnership with Larry. Axdahl Farms invested in more land and equipment for growing their now famous sweet corn and other great fresh produce. Larry and RoAnne retired in 1998. Brian and Leslie literally bought the farm!
Now the produce growing business has grown into much more than a past-time for the Axdahl's. Brian's background as a design engineer of harvesting equipment and Leslie's background in marketing have helped them grow their roadside stand business as well as their wholesale accounts with area grocery stores, restaurants, and distributors into an exciting and challenging lifestyle career.
As 2004 neared its end, Axdahl's welcomed a new addition to the family. A brand new state of the art greenhouse filled with a fabulous assortment of beautiful hanging baskets and potted plants featuring Proven Winners. Visit our greenhouse page for more details.
